Birchgrove Wharf

Birchgrove Wharf is located at the tip of the Balmain Peninsula, west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge at the mouth of Parramatta River. The wharf commands a wonderful view of the Harbour Bridge, and serves as a good access point for the bays and inlets of western Sydney Harbour. Choosing Birchgrove Wharf for Your Cruise Pick Up

Birchgrove Wharf sits right on the northern tip of the Balmain Peninsula, opposite the popular Ballast Point park. As well as obviously being a good choice for residents of Birchgrove and Balmain especially, Birchgrove Point Wharf can be easily reached from further afield thanks to the regular F8 ferries that run from the CBD out to Cockatoo Island via Greenwich and Woolwich. Nevertheless, if your party has special requirements, ask our staff to recommend other nearby wharfs as Birchgrove is classed as "not accessible" by Transport for NSW.

Getting to Birchgrove Wharf

Although accessing Birchgrove Wharf by ferry is fairly easy thanks to the frequent F8 service, other means of transport are not ideal. You can arrive by car for a quick drop off of passengers and supplies, but we wouldn't recommend planning on parking for the day. Parking spaces on the peninsula are very limited and Louisa Road, which leads to the wharf, is narrow and often full. Similarly, land-based public transport is limited, with only one bus service (the 440) stopping within a 15-minute walk of the wharf. No bike racks are currently available at Birkenhead Point Wharf.

Local amenities

There are a handful of shops dotted about in Birchgrove, but most are at least a 15-minute walk away from the wharf. For more comprehensive supplies, be sure you don't forget anything or pick up everything you need in central Balmain before your boat hire begins, otherwise you run the risk of a lengthy delay to your day out.
