Barangaroo Foreshore Walk Overview

The Barangaroo Foreshore Walk is a scenic route within the 6-hectare Barangaroo Reserve, featuring over 70,000 native plants. You can start the walk from Hickson Road near Munn Street or from the Towns Place roundabout close to Wharf 9 at Walsh Bay. Starting from Hickson Road is recommended for saving the Harbour Bridge view for the end, offering a pleasant resting spot atop a hill.

Sights

Barangaroo Reserve's thoughtful design invites you to pause and take in the views from various vantage points. Enjoy panoramic views of Darling Harbour, Goat Island, Balls Head Reserve, Luna Park, the North Shore, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge from Stargazer Lawn or one of the many pathways.

History & Development

Named after Barangaroo, a significant Cammeraygal woman, the area was once a vital hunting and fishing ground for the Gadigal people. It later became Sydney's primary port in the 19th century before Port Botany took over, leaving Barangaroo dormant until redevelopment began in 2003. The reserve opened in August 2015, connecting popular areas like Walsh Bay and Cockle Bay.

Activities

Barangaroo is ideal for walking, cycling, and running, with a sandy track circling the area. It's also perfect for picnics, with many waterside spots and hilltop views. Dogs are welcome on leashes, and there’s a playground on Merriman Street for kids.

Getting There

  • By Train: The nearest stations are Circular Quay and Wynyard, each about 1 km from the reserve.
  • By Bus: Buses 311, 324, and 325 connect directly to Barangaroo Reserve from Town Hall, Watsons Bay, and Millers Point.
